The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID enforcement deadline by a year as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the national emergency declaration. October 1, 2021 is the new deadline for REAL ID enforcement.
Every traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another acceptable form of ID to in order to travel by air.
REAL ID-compliant cards are marked with a star at the top of the identification card. If you’re unsure if your ID is compliant, check for star. Contact your state’s motor vehicle association (MVA) to learn how you can obtain a REAL ID-compliant card.
